In what can be described as an added vote of confidence on South African soccer, Fifa has appointed PSL chairman Irvin Khoza to serve on its newly created subcommittee.

Sepp Blatter, Fifa president, has appointed the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee chairman as a member of their Strategic Committee.

The committee is made up of the who's who of soccer administration across the globe, with French legend Michel Platini as its chairman.

It represents the confederations, national associations, leagues, clubs, players, coaches, referees and medical experts.

Their first meeting is in Zurich, Switzerland, on October 9.

The respected Khoza, the only South African serving on the committee, represents the leagues along with Richard Scudamore, the English Premiership chief executive.

Khoza also serves on the Fifa 2010 World Cup Organising Committee with compatriots Molefi Oliphant and Danny Jordaan.

Other heavyweights on the new committee include Blatter, Jerome Valcke, Franz Beckenbauer, Jack Warner and Italy's 2006 World Cup winning coach Marcello Lippi.

Argentinian Julio Grandona of South America Football Confederation is the deputy chairman.

Khoza was naturally elated with the appointment, saying he felt honoured to represent all the leagues of the world.

"It augurs well for the future of the league [PSL], It's a challenge for us to continue making our league a league of the best in the world," said Khoza.

"The environment will be different, but we will bring our experience to it in terms of how we are doing things."

Issa Hayatou (CAF), Mohamed Bin Hamman (AFC), Warner (CONCACAF) and Reyland Temarii (OFC) are representing the confederations.

American Sunhil Galati, Saburo Kawabuchi (Japan), Mathieu Sprengers (Netherlands) and Jacques Anouma (Ivory Coast) represent national associations.

The clubs are represented by Joan Laporta (FC Barcelona), Roberto Fiqueira (Fluminese FC), Othman Jenayah (Etoile du Sahel) and Guillermo White (Club de Futbol America).
