Agencies vie for World Cup poster

Sixteen creative posters have been submitted by South-African based agencies for consideration to become the official 2010 World Cup poster.

Sixteen creative posters have been submitted by South-African based agencies for consideration to become the official 2010 World Cup poster.

Three proposals have already been pre-selected by a panel of judges made up of Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke and LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan.

Other members are Minister in the Presidency Essop Pahad, Deputy Finance Minister Jabu Moleketi, author Wally Serote and artist Gordon Cook.

South Africans will also take part in voting for the best design to become the official poster for the historic tournament.

People who cast their votes stand a chance of winning the very first two tickets to be awarded to the public for the World Cup, provided by Fifa World Cup sponsor MTN.

While only people living in South Africa can take part in the ballot, everyone around the world will be able to have a first glimpse of the choice of artworks on the official website www.fifa.com/poster during the selection phase. The voting process ends on September 30.

The selected official poster will then be unveiled at the preliminary draw of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in Durban on 25 November.

It is the second time the residents of the host country are actively involved in the selection of the official event poster, after Germany 2006.
