Well done to both the Ghana under-23 junior national team as well as the Chipolopolo of Zambia on their emphatic victories over South African junior and senior national teams.
With regards to the Under-23s, Steve Komphela was playing with fire. There is too much duplication of player selection in his team and no variation in attack.
Daniel Amokachi once said that we have the correct tools but without a well-trained target man who would provide us with an option to impose an aerial presence as well as allow the team to playing off him. We would therefore find it difficult to compete at this level. Where is Eleazar Rogers? Our attack is one-dimensional, with our predictable short-passing game.
The 4-5-1 formation by coach Parreira was bound to be exposed at some stage. We don't have natural wingers who have the explosive pace to quickly attack the space to support the lone striker. Against Zambia we were out of our depth.
Cyril Nzama should be dropped immediately and Jimmy Tau should be recalled.
