IT prize for teacher

Frank Maponya

A Limpopo teacher has won the annual IT Super-Teacher of the Year Award, a national competition for teachers in information technology.

George Mokgehle became the overall winner in a competition that was held in Bryanston, Johannesburg, at the weekend.

For his achievement, he walked away with a laptop and a certificate.

Mokgehle, 51, a teacher at Toronto Primary School in Mankweng outside Polokwane, attributed his achievement to hard work and dedication.

He won in only his second entry into the competition.

He was a runner-up last year.

The competition is sponsored by the Internet Service Providers Association and Uniforum South Africa, the owners of co.za.

"It has always been my dream to win the competition because I really believe in myself," a proud Mokgehle said.

He received a donation of two computers in 2000 to teach his pupils information technology and has never looked back.

"The year 2000 is a long time ago and I believe with an oomph, one is nowhere near failure."
