A protracted feud over mining activities in Sekhukhune, Limpopo, took an ugly turn at the weekend when a chief and his brother were arrested for assault.

Chief Isaac Kgwete of Mandagshoek village and his brother Michael are facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and public violence in the Mecklenburg magistrate's court.

The two allegedly incited violence in the area.

This came after the community attacked seven engineers from Modikwa Platinum Mine who were prospecting for mining activities in the area.

Limpopo police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the feud turned violent when angry villagers protested against any mining activities taking place in their village.
