No joy at all at the 10th jazz festival

The 10th Joy of Jazz festival was probably the worst showing by T-Musicman so far. I have never seen a jazz festival opened by an R&B artist, especially when there was a mother of jazz orchestras in the line-up.

We should stop calling the festival Joy of Jazz because jazz is definitely no longer the main driver. It was an insult to all the jazz lovers who have supported the festival since its inception.

Weekend passes should be made available to allow people to move around and enjoy other artists, especially after the mess with the way artists were billed this year.

How do the organisers justify putting No Jazz on the same bill as The Count Basie Orchestra? The two are poles apart in terms of audience appeal. It was very sad to see people leaving after the performance by Count Basie Orchestra and continuing to stream out while No Jazz was performing.

Why on earth did the draw-card band not close the show? Why was Delfaeyo Marsalis not put on the same bill?

The choice of South African artists also left a lot to be desired. I attended for a completely different vibe, not to sing along with Shikisha - which I can do at Moretele Park or Dickinson Park. Our artists are not even making an attempt to increase their repertoires. They just give us different arrangements of the same old songs.
