DOWNS BLAME REF FOR SLIM LOSS

Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a 1-0 loss to Astres Duoala of Cameroon in their Confederation Cup return match in Duoala on Saturday.

It was sweet revenge for the west Africans who were beaten 2-1 by Sundowns in their first leg match in Pretoria last month.

The controversial penalty was awarded in the 75th minute after Benson Mhlongo was adjudged to have handled the ball.

Sundowns, the only South African side remaining in the continental club competitions, attributed the defeat to poor refereeing and a slippery field.

Downs are lying second on the log with six points, while Duoala are languishing at the bottom of the table despite the win, which was their first in this tournament.

The South African side are coming back home tomorrow.

El Merrikh (Sudan) 4, Kwara United (Nigeria) 1; CSS (Tunisia) 2, TP Mazembe (RD Congo) 0. - Sowetan
