'Women in pants' case postponed

By unknown | Aug 31, 2007 | COMMENTS [ 0 ]

The case against four men accused of forcing a woman to parade naked in the streets for wearing pants was postponed to September 14 at the Umlazi magistrates' court yesterday.

The incident has caused an outcry from women's organisations, with the Commission on Gender Equality labelling it a "violation of basic human rights to dignity".

Thulani Cele, Sibusiso Cele, Sitha Nzuza and Wiseman Mzotho face charges of assault, indecent assault, malicious damage to property and intimidation.

They allegedly stripped Zandile Mpanza naked and forced her to parade through the area before her house was burnt down last month because she chose to wear pants. - Canaan Mdletshe
