LSP stands by its condoms

Condom manufacturer Latex Surgical Products (LSP) still prides itself as a premium quality manufacturer despite the damaging revelations against it.

LSP, through its empowerment company, Zalatex, is alleged to have bribed an official at the South African Bureau of Standards to approve condoms that had failed to meet quality criteria.

The Health Department on Monday announced that it was recalling all condoms supplied by Zalatex, after concerns about the quality of its products.

Despite the SABS having withdrawn its certification from all LSP products, the company still prides itself on being competent at manufacturing condoms and sterile latex surgical and examination gloves in South Africa and the first to export these products.

The company says on its website: "In its 15 years of existence the company has evolved as the premium quality manufacturer.

"Committed to produce the highest quality gloves and condoms, the operation has adopted stringent Good Manufacturing Practices and carries the South African Bureau of Standards Mark, a quality mark recognised by the World Health Organisation."

LSP says it maintains a quality management system complying with ISO 9001:2000 and the medical device requirement ISO 13485:2003.

The firm insists products are manufactured with state-of-art technology in a hygienic complex.

"The quality of the products meet and exceed the stringent product standards."
