The North West government is planning a massive medal haul at the 2007 National Indigenous Festival in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape to be held from August 30 to September 3.

Shirley Montsho, provincial sports and recreation department spokesman, said they have selected more than 100 athletes to represent the province.

"It is a huge provincial team that is hungry for glory. The team was selected on June 30 and has been sharpening up for the tournament since then.

"There will also be medical tests for all the athletes when they assemble in Potchefstroom on August 29.

"There is a sending-off function on the same night to be addressed by MEC Ndleleni Duma," said Montsho.

Participants will compete in eight codes: dibeke, khokho, kgati, ncuva, intonga, morabaraba, jukskei and diketo. Three venues will be used: the Sisa Dukashe Stadium, Mdantsane Indoor Complex and Orlando Stadium.

Montsho said a national team will be selected from athletes who perform well at the festival. These athletes will qualify for the World Traditional Sport Championships in Busan, South Korea, from May 9 to 15 next year.
