The overcast weather on Saturday provided ideal conditions for the 4000 cyclists who took part in the 10th annual Cansa Cycle Challenge held in Pilanesburg, North-West.
Held over a fairly flat course of 103km, the event saw the riders initially heading towards Rustenburg, before snaking their way back to the start-finish line at Sun City.
Growing in stature each year, the race attracted riders from as far afield as Cape Town and Botswana, and the majority were impressed with the organisation of the event.
"The roadside facilities were nicely spaced and there was plenty of liquids to quench our thirst," said Ben Thugwane, from Gaborone.
"I'll definitely be back next year," he added.
With an event of this size all eventualities have to be taken into consideration, but fortunately things went without any major hitches.
"The race has gone very smoothly. We are pleased to say there were no major accidents - just the odd graze here and there," said race organiser Johan du Toit.
"Also, it looks like we have managed to meet our target of raising R300000, which will be handed over to the North West Cancer Association," added Du Toit.
The final 500 metres saw a breakaway bunch of 12 cyclists seeking a podium finish and the mad dash for the line eventually saw Nolan Hoffman take first place, followed by Christoff van Heerden, and in third spot Malcolm Lange.
In the women's section, Andriette Schoeman led home Lynette Burger and Louise Murphy.
