A King William's Town pensioner, who was conned out of R18000, yesterday said she had lost all hope of ever getting her money back.
Nobuntu Nont- shinga, 63, said she fell prey to con artists after she finished buying groceries.
Nontshinga said an unknown man had approached her and said someone had smeared muti on her shoulder.
He advised her to withdraw all her money from the bank or the muti would make it disappear.
"The man, who was then joined by another, gave me a lift to East London where they advised me to withdraw all my money," she said.
"After withdrawing the money, the men ordered me to buy them food. They told me to leave the money in the car while I went to buy them food. When I got out of the shop they had disappeared," she said.
FNB provincial chief executive Bennet Mdebuka confirmed that, in their records, it appeared the money was withdrawn from the bank account of Nontshinga at one of their branches in East London.
He said they would check video footage to see whether they could trace the alleged con men.
King William's Town police spokesman Captain Thozama Solani confirmed the matter had been reported to the police.
