It's unfair that South Africans will not elect a president of their choice and that the incumbent will be elected by a handful of ANC members.
With the current in-fighting in the ANC, divisions will interfere with the election of a new leader because emotions and getting back at each other will get in the way.
The worrying factor is that this is going to affect the entire population because whoever is elected new party president will also automatically become the president of the country. And the citizens will not have any say in the matter.
The problem is that the general public and the ANC delegates at the December Polokwane conference have different views and are fighting for different interests. The 1500 members will elect the ANC president based on loyalty to internal party squabbles. Wanting to prove each other wrong in their factional wars will be the motive when they elect the new president.
Service delivery, economic growth and other presidential credentials are what South Africans are interested in, but these will not be considered. Delegates are going to choose a president who will rule our nation of 47million people for the next 10 years.
