Celebrated artist Lefifi Tladi, pictured, will definitely perform during The Jazz Poets in Conversation with Biko show at the Market Theatre Laboratory in Newtown, Johannesburg tonight and tomorrow at 8pm.
Organised by the Steve Biko 30th Anniversary and Legacy Reference Committee, this is one of several shows lined up for the Steve Biko 30:30 celebrations being organised at different places in South Africa.
The Steve Biko Foundation, which has endorsed the reference committee's events, is organising several other related events.
It was initially feared that Tladi - an influential jazz musician, poet, painter, sculptor and philosopher - would not make it in time for the show from his base in Sweden.
In a poignant entry on his personal website, fellow poet Kgafela oa Magogodi describes Tladi as coming from the Malombo Jazz Messengers, which later became Dashiki.
The Jazz Poets In Conversation with Biko features several other seasoned artists. These include musicians Khaya Mahlangu, Tlale Makhene, Johnny Chonco, Tlokwe Sehume, Shaluza Max Mntambo and poets Pitika ka Ntuli, Kgafela oa Magogodi and Lesego Motsepe.
It will include poetry recitals and musical renditions, in which famous poet Mongane Wally Serote's epic work, Time Has Run Out, will form an inspirational backdrop.
Tickets cost R90 and are available from Computicket. Otherwise, admission is R100 at the door.
The events are supported by the Arts and Culture Ministry. Sowetan is chief media sponsor.
