Open letter to South Africa’s students‚ universities and government‚ represented by Minister in the .
I am disgusted by the attitudes, conduct and personalities of leaders involved in the anti-North West issues in Khutsong, and by their surrogates.
Unfortunately, we normally see the unemployed youth and pupils barricading the streets and throwing stones at the police. We don't see these faceless leaders who plan, organise and execute the chaos besetting this township. Beyond any shadow of doubt, they get away with murder by using the poor youth and pupils. They persuade them to sacrifice schooling in favour of belonging to a particular province.
You cannot dispute the grievances of the community of Khutsong, however, due processes are unfolding to settle the matter. Why should pupils who are serious about their future be barred from attending school or going to Taung for that matter. Threatening to torch houses of families whose children went to Taung is not just barbaric, it is despicable.
It is abundantly clear that, the majority in Khutsong is not necessarily opposed to the transfer of the township to North West.
The government needs to find out is whether these faceless leaders have a mandate.
Then it should seriously step up security measures, including intelligence gathering, to eliminate the dark forces in Khutsong before more lives and houses are destroyed.
