To make the challenge of fulfilling its service delivery mandate easier, the Gauteng social services department has unveiled an innovative computer-based progress-tracking system known as Supatsela.

Launched in association with information communication technology company IBM, Supatsela is a programme aimed at turning around social development service delivery in Gauteng.

It is expected to become a service delivery model aimed at providing the department with an integrated platform that will allow it to report on its key performance areas and reduce costs.

Gauteng social services MEC Job Mokgoro's department hopes that Supatsela will ease the burden of all the provincial government's various departments to put into place systems that will make integrated service delivery with minimal or no duplication, and that will enhance the spirit of Batho- Pele.

Supatsela is based on IBM's SAP Social Care Solution software, an integrated platform that will allow it to report on its key performance indicators, and is intended for:

l Improved efficiency, accountability and monitoring service delivery;

l Increased productivity and turnaround time;

l Single point of entry for all services provided by the department;

l Paper reduction, which is in line with the e-government policy;

l And, easy access and availability of management information.
