I have followed the impasse around the PAC's leadership problems with great interest and gave a great deal of thought on the type of leadership its members need.

The PAC has had six congresses since it was unbanned in 1990 and no less than 2000 people attended each of them. This demonstrates the character of an organisation whose history cannot be dumped in the dustbin. It is a party for yesterday, today and tomorrow.

The only way to regain its past glory is to focus on the needs and aspirations of our people, who despite the government's policies, continue to live in squalor.

The PAC does not have any credibility crisis like other amorphous groups parading as political parties. The history of this country and the continent will attest to that. It continues to be a pacesetter in this country's liberation.

But struggle credentials will not extricate the PAC from its problems, and reclaiming its past glory will require strong, dynamic and collective leadership.

We need a PAC that is politically and economically sound. We need a PAC that knows what challenges our people face. We need a PAC that will rise above petty differences and assert itself as an alternative political home for the homeless and leaderless communities. All Pan Africanists must unite and rejuvenate the PAC.
