After monopolising school sports in Mpumalanga, East High Academy of Nelspruit are now eyeing national honours.

The academy and Zacheus Malaza Secondary School from Witbank have qualified for the Mille Cup Under-14 and MTN Cup Under-17 national playoffs.

In the Mille Cup encounter, Zacheus beat East High 3-1 to book a place in the national playoffs, which to take place in Durban from September 20-24.

Again these two teams met in a grudge match during the provincial playoffs for the MTN Cup. Despite Zacheus taking an early 2-0 lead, East High managed to force the game into a penalty shootout and emerged 4-3 victors. The national playoffs to be held in Johannesburg from September 26 to 30.

Goodman Ngobeni, East High coach for both the Under-14s and 17s, said this year they want to win the MTN Cup.

"I started to coach the academy this year and never expected success so early. I'm surprise that in a short space of time I managed to guide the Academy to two prestigious national tournaments," he said.

Other provincial schools who have qualified for the MTN Cup national playoffs are AJ Ferreira and Kimberley Boys (Northern Cape); Harmony Academy and Grey High School (Free State); Rubusana Secondary School and Nolitha Secondary School (Eastern Cape); and Lesedi Middle School and Thabiso Middle School (North West).
