Joe Phaahla, director-general of the 2010 unit, said yesterday the event would be held in winter, when demand for electricity would be at its peak.

"Stadia will be powered by generators in terms of Fifa requirements," he said. It is estimated that 30 billion people will be exposed to South Africa during the event. - Sapa
