Minus sums for education workers

KwaZulu-Natal education department employees who did not take part in the recent public sector strikes will have to prove they abstained from labour action.

KwaZulu-Natal education department employees who did not take part in the recent public sector strikes will have to prove they abstained from labour action.

If they don't they may have their salaries docked.

In a statement yesterday, the department said employees who were paid on August 15 and had participated in the strike for more than four days would already have experienced a decrease in keeping with the first of three monthly deductions.

Those who did not join the strike action would have to "provide sworn affidavits". Those who were sick would have to provide the necessary medical evidence.

The statement said the docking of staff salaries was "as per Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council resolution one of this year, which says that the no work-no pay policy shall be applied by the employer". -Sapa
