"If need be, legal steps against the minister will be considered," FF Plus spokesman Pieter Groenewald said yesterday.
In May, Groenewald submitted a written parliamentary question to Nqakula, asking how many SAPS members were charged criminally in 2003, 2004, 2005, and last year, and found guilty of crimes in 2005 and last year.
Nqakula on Monday said: "The required information is not readily available.
"To obtain the information would necessitate the redeployment of police personnel to verify every case relevant to the period in question.
"The redeployment of personnel to carry out this task would be to the detriment of other essential duties or service delivery."
Groenewald said Nqakula's reply "speaks of incompetence and poor knowledge".
"If he doesn't know how many of his own police members have been charged and found guilty of crimes, how can he act to combat corruption and crime in the police service?" - Sapa
