Families, relatives and victims of apartheid feel that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission did not bring closure for them.

On Saturday, the families of those who died during that dark era as well as apartheid survivors held a meeting at Small Farms, Evaton in the Vaal.

They criticised the government for not delivering on its promises of providing them with houses, grants and skills.

The meeting was organised by Khulumani Support Group, local police and the Gauteng department of social development.

Some family members said they had told their stories to the TRC, but to date the commission had not helped them to trace their missing relatives.

They urged the police to launch further investigations into how and who killed their relatives and to trace the remains of those who disappeared as the TRC had failed to do so.

Others want special pension grants for those who were not affiliated to liberation forces because they had also helped fight apartheid.
