Chiawelo Fabulous Ladies team scooped the Philips Zodwa Khoza Memorial Cup title when they defeated All Stars Ladies 1-0 at the White City swimming pool ground in Soweto yesterday.
Some of the dignitaries who attended the inaugural tournament include Banyana Banyana coach August Makalakalane and Orlando Pirates' boss Dr Irvin Khoza's personal assistant, Mphallwa Molepo.
Watched by an estimated crowd of 1 000, both teams dished out fabulous football as they searched for an early lead.
The game was equally balanced in the first 20 minutes of the first half but Stars lost focus in the process as they showed some cracks in defence.
Stars came close to scoring in the 25th minute when defender Tshepiso Masenamela's strike hit the upright with Fabulous' goalie Ncebo Zungu well beaten.
Four minutes later Stars' goalkeeper Glenda Mabasa pulled a daring save when she blocked a Fabulous striker Nkosingphandule Kambule's tricky shot from an awkward angle.
Fabulous tormented their opponents with quick moves and excellent touches in the dying minutes of this half.
But Stars' defence, marshalled by Itumeleng Motshoane, stood firm and diffused their threatening attempts.
There was no score at the break. Both teams worked hard to break the stalemate in the second half but their strikers shot wide.
Striker Zodwa ''Cholera'' Nyembe scored Fabulous' winning goal in the 76th minute after she capitalised on Stars' blunders.
Fabulous midfielder Tina Selepe Zodwa was voted the Best player of the tournament and Stars' goalie Mabasa walked away with the goalkeeper of the tournament award. Fabulous got R10 000, a trophy and gold medals and Stars received R5 000 and silver medals.
