Soweto Select X1 started on a high note when they conquered Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 in a SuperSport Under-19 Cup game at the Pimville-Klipsruit Development Centre yesterday.

This convincing win served as a morale boost for the Soweto juniors ahead of their next game today against Ajax Cape Town at 10.10am.

Sundowns were given no respect by the Select X1 who matched them pound for pound in the opening minutes of the match. Sundowns started creating ample scoring chances but appeared to have left their scoring boots at home.

Striker Katleho Pule of the Soweto team opened the scoring in the 25th minute. They held steadfastly on to the lead until the break.

Sundowns came out smoking in the second half but they found the Select X1's defence unyielding.

Midfielder Tshepo Thulo gave the Sowetans a comfortable 2-0 lead in the 55th minute with a thunderous shot. Xolani Nzima scored the third goal in the last minute of the match.

Other results: Platinum Stars 2, Wits 1; Enyimba International FC 2, Swallows 0; Black Leopards 1, Ajax Cape Town 1.
