Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
An Mpumalanga man who went to the Bushbuckridge police station to open a hijcking case ended up behind bars himself.
Police said the man was locked up after it was discovered that the car he was reporting as stolen, had earlier also been reported stolen.
Police said it was true that the man had been hijacked, but it also turned out that the car had been stolen from someone else.
The man, from the Mganduzeni area, near Hazyview, had apparently visited his girlfriend in Bushbuckridge when three armed robbers hijacked him on Saturday morning.
He was apparently forced to report the matter by his girlfriend. The woman accompanied him to the police station.
Police immediately arrested the man on suspicion that he had stolen the car himself before it was hijacked from him.
