Providing decent houses is an ongoing struggle

Limpopo's local government and housing department adheres to good corporate governance and conducts its business in a transparent manner.

This financial year, we appointed four consortiums to complete incomplete houses. With the capacity of these consortiums we will fast-track housing delivery. We have also appointed 40 developers and nine services contracts to build houses. The companies are owned by historically disadvantaged people, women and youth.

The department is a tenant of public works, which calls for tenders and appoints companies that provide office accommodation for government. After Public Works appointed a service provider, the local government and housing department entered into a lease agreement for 10 years, not 30 years, as was reported.

It is true that we have acquired land in Bendor. The seller wanted R60million but after two independent land valuers quoted lower prices, we persuaded the seller to accept R27,5million.

We are faced with a daunting challenge of providing decent housing and integrating our communities.

We shall continue to strive for the acceleration of service delivery through our municipalities.
