Former Orlando Pirates chairman John Mabaso, who was a solid pillar of football, has gone the way of all flesh.

He died before seeing the Buccaneers breaking the recent jinx Kaizer Chiefs had over them, when they booted Amakhosi out of the Vodacom Challenge in Port Elizabeth last Thursday, the same night Mabaso died.

Mabaso, who has been in and out of hospital since February this year, died at the Daxina Clinic in Lenasia.

His death came as a shock to most of the soccer lovers in the country.

He was a man of peace and was also involved in community work.

A memorial service for Mabaso will be held at the Orlando Communal Hall tomorrow at 12.30pm.
