Climb aboard for first Oppi-Trok party under the stars

Gugu Sibiya

Oppi-Trok signals the first pre-party of the yearly Oppikoppi Festival.

The festival takes place over three days, from August 9 to August 11, while the Oppi-Trok party will kick off at about 6pm on August 8.

The hot spot will be under a suitable tree in the middle of the camp site.

It's said to be the best way to kick-off the weekend with tunes, friends and more tunes.

After intense discussions emanating from members, and several thousand fans who had cast their votes for the Band Wish List, Oppikoppi Productions and MK were chuffed to announce their very first Oppi-Trok pre-party.

The Oppi-Trok party features the top six bands on the Oppikoppi Band Wish List, a poll running on the Oppikoppi website.

The Band Wish List initiative was first raised in March to enable music lovers to choose their favourite bands.

Ardent fans and true lovers of good music are enjoying the rare privilege of choosing the bands they want to feature on the Oppikoppi stage and yesteryear's party animals are bound for a nostalgic trip.

The party venue will be a standard cattle truck, rigged with speakers, lights and generators to keep the party rolling.

Invitations to vote for your favourite band at www.oppikoppi.co.za are still open. The competition closes today and winners will be announced tomorrow.
