Another community is protesting about the lack of delivery of houses. When is the Gauteng government going to admit that something is wrong?
Klipspruit informal settlement dwellers live right next to the new Kliptown housing developments. They have watched the houses being built. Apparently, they were promised that they would be the beneficiaries of these homes, but this did not happen.
The ANC must stop promising what it cannot deliver. If it ran the housing department better, it would deliver more and better quality houses.
Unfortunately for our democracy, these communities are saying that they will not vote again. This, like violent protest, is not a solution. Residents should unite, take back power and vote for a party they believe will do the job properly.
If your chosen representatives do not live up to your expectations, try someone else. Don't give up the right to choose and the right to vote. Just use your vote wisely to make change. No one can take away what you already have or threaten to take away benefits you are already getting from the state if you do not vote for them.
Honour the legacy of the struggle by confirming the strength and independence of the democracy that so many people fought for.
