The Moloi Hesse Band will bring a New Orleans flavour to the prestigious annual Businesswoman of the Year gala function.

The event is hosted by the Businesswomen's Association of South Africa and will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday.

The band is a jazzy team fronted by Jacqueline Moloi and bass player George Hesse.

It also features multitalented Brian Smith, classically trained pianist Retha Klopper, drumming dynamo Ignatius Hefer and Shawn van Staden, an acclaimed young guitarist who has toured internationally.

Jacqueline Moloi said the event reinforces belief in herself and in women.

"It makes me want to be the best I can be and proud to be a woman in South Africa today. Such initiatives set the trend for the ever-present potential for women to succeed in business."

About 1200 people will pay tribute to the role women have played in influencing and empowering South African business while contributing to the community.

Headed by prominent women such as Basetsana Kumalo and the recently appointed CEO Angie Makwetla, the association has spearheaded professional and business alliances through its growing community of industry leaders.

The band will echo blues greats like Charles Brown, Willie Dixon, Big Joe Williams, Robert Johnson and others and is sure to entertain.

The audience will have travelled from many corners of South Africa for the celebration of women's achievements.
