The debate on whether Limpopo will be able to host the ANC's 52nd national conference continues.

The ANC in Limpopo yesterday squashed as "mischievous and misleading" all media reports that there are moves to shift the party's national conference from the University of Limpopo campus near Polokwane in favour of a venue in Gauteng.

ANC national spokesman Smuts Ngonyama dismissed the reports and said there is no change to plans to hold the conference in Polokwane.

"There is nothing like that. We are still committed to Limpopo to host the conference, unless there are new developments," Ngonyama said.

This was after fears that the sports complex under construction at the University of Limpopo might not be completed by December. The campus has the capacity to accommodate the 4000 or so delegates expected at the conference.

ANC provincial spokesman Benny Boshielo said the party is appalled by media reports suggesting the conference might be moved to another province.

"To our knowledge we are not aware of any discussion by any structure of the ANC which has discussed such a possibility.

"The ANC in Limpopo is busy with preparations for the conference and we can confirm that our accommodation facilities in Polokwane, Turfloop and surroundings can accommodate well over the number of delegates expected at the conference," said Boshielo.

"The ANC argues further that the university would be able to provide a state of the art marquee, capable of accommodating over 6000 people," Boshielo added.
