Mpumalanga will test its ability to stage big matches by hosting a four-team tournament in October.

Desmond Golding, Mpumalanga head of the 2010 office, said the Premier International Tournament will be a yearly event until 2010.

"We will be inviting one of the Premiership big guns between Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates; and a top German Bundesliga [club]; and one team from Mozambique and Swaziland," said Golding.

He said the idea behind the tournament is also to popularise the 2010 World Cup and to mobilise the people of the province.

"Though the venue and the exact date are still not yet known, we are looking to host the tournament around the Nelspruit area. Such events are important since we are one of the hosting cities for the 2010 World Cup."

Golding said they will also use the Cosafa U-20 tournament to open a platform for the province to promote and support social cohesion.

Thirteen countries from the southern Africa region will take part in the tournament that will be organised in partnership with Safa and the business community.

The countries are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
