Beatrice Marshoff, Free State premier, yesterday pleaded with Freestaters to ensure the province was once more represented in the Telkom Charity Cup.
Marshoff's call came after discussions with marketing representatives of Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars in Bloemfontein.
"We are of the view that the two teams have to be supported in their bid to qualify for the Telkom Charity Cup [in Mmabatho on August 4]," she said.
"The participation of Free State clubs in any major soccer tournament is very important, as one of the provinces to host the 2010 World Cup.
"This is not only important for the teams concerned but is rather important in placing Free State as a tourist destination in the world," added Marshoff.
Sello Nduna of Celtic and Louis Tshakoane of Stars were excited that Marshoff has also urged Freestaters to vote for their clubs.
Meanwhile, the two teams met in a friendly on Sunday and Free State Stars beat Celtic 2-1 in Bohlokong.
The voting as of 4.30pm yesterday: Platinum Stars (formerly Silver Stars) were still perched at the top with 154 693 votes, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns (76472) and Kaizer Chiefs (71421).
Orlando Pirates were lying fourth on 67 499 votes, with Celtic fifth (41133). Stars are 11th with 625 votes.
At the same time, there was still no further news of Sundowns' participation in the tournament. Earlier the club said they were waiting for the league to decide their fate.
