Eagles swoop to top of log

Welkom Eagles took over at the top of the Absa Currie Cup First Division log after beating Witbank Pumas 25-18 in Mpumalanga at the weekend.

Welkom Eagles took over at the top of the Absa Currie Cup First Division log after beating Witbank Pumas 25-18 in Mpumalanga at the weekend.

This after the Leopards from North West ended the Mighty Elephants' three-game unbeaten record with a 48-37 win in Potchefstroom.

The Elephants, who have been leading the pack since the inception of the league, have now moved to third spot.

Second-placed Griffons struggled before beating a tough Border 28-27 in a well-balanced clash.

But the Leopards' position on the log was unchanged after their first win of the season. After three games, they are still lying second from the bottom of the log with six points, four points ahead of tail-enders Border, who lost 28-27 to Griffons, from the same number of matches. - Meshack Khotha
