Balebetse Monnakgotla, a prominent North West soccer leader, has joined the South African Football Association in the competitions directorate.
Monnakgotla has been employed as a national officer of the Metropolitan Under-19 National League, which was started by Safa two years ago.
The league, which also serves as a feeder to the South African Under-20 national team and Olympic side, is played in all 317 local football associations of Safa.
"We are excited to have a person of Balebetse's calibre coming on board in the competitions directorate," said Selokela Masetle, Safa competitions director.
"This is a major acquisition for us because the man has been involved in soccer administration at amateur level for almost two decades.
"He will definitely add value to the directorate. We have agreed that he will also assist on other matters relating to competitions besides running the Under-19 League."
Monnakgotla accepted the new post after heading the Safa Vodacom Promotional League in North West for almost a decade. At the same time, he was in charge of the SAB Regional League in the province.
"It's a great honour to have been offered the job. The good thing is that I'm familiar with the competitions directorate and soccer in general," said Monnakgotla.
"Working with the local football associations is a great challenge that I'm looking forward to. My passion has always been with development."
Monnakgotla is the son of the late Crown Monnakgotla, who worked for the National Soccer League as Third Division administrator.
Masetle also announced the restructuring of the competitions directorate, saying the three remaining coordinators will now operate from the head office.
The trio are Penuel Nkwankwa (KwaZulu-Natal), Wellington Ngcobo (Eastern Cape) and Bareng Kgobi (Northern Cape).
"We are doing away with the old system of having nine provincial coordinators for the Vodacom League, each of them will deal with three provinces," Masetle said. "Theresa Biggs, who was in the Western Cape, is also here and will do administrative work for the directorate."
