A 17-year-old schoolboy appeared in the KwaMsane magistrates' court in KwaZulu-Natal for the rape of a schoolmate.
Both the victim and the alleged perpetrator are enrolled at Madwaleni High School in KwaMsane.
Neither victim nor accused can
identified because they are still under age. The accused was not asked to plead.
Police spokesman Jabulani Mdletshe said the 16-year-old victim was attacked last Monday. She was allegedly raped while walking home after accompanying a friend.
"The suspect allegedly dragged the victim into nearby bushes and raped her," said Mdletshe. The victim managed to escape and told her mother what had happened.
A case of rape was opened at the nearest police station, Mdletshe said.
