Boxing South Africa's recently instituted rule governing local title fights has blocked Takalani Kwinda from challenging Oscar Chauke for the national junior featherweight belt.
The rule makes it clear that being a number one contender does not necessarily guarantee boxers the right to championship fights.
It stipulates that number one contenders must have either defeated or drawn with boxers who are rated in the top 10 in the last eight months, to be eligible for championship fights.
Kwinda is rated number one but the Limpopo boxer, who fights out of Gauteng under trainer Nick Durandt, has not fought since losing a six- rounder to Ludumo Galada in April last year.
BSA's public relations officer Loyiso Mtya announced that Chauke would instead defend against Macbuti Sinyabi.
The 22-year-old fighter is rated number two.
The exact date and month of the clash is not yet known. Attempts to get clarity from Chauke's promoter Mbali Zantsi of Showtime Boxing Promotions drew a blank.
Chauke, 26, is from Tshiawelo in Soweto. His skills are honed by Manny Fernandez. Chauke has a record of 22 wins, four losses and two draws.
He won the title in August last year and has defended it three times against Takatso Hlahane, Springkaan Khongoane and Luyanda Mrawuli.
Sinyabi, the younger brother to Sizwe, the former SA junior flyweight champion, boasts eight wins (eight stoppages) and a single loss.
