An East London woman yesterday told a local court how her mother and stepfather plotted to kill her.

The woman, Nokuthula Noqobo, said her stepfather, Simon Martin, attacked and stabbed her twice while she was asleep on January 20 this year.

"He entered my room and, when I woke up, he stabbed me twice in the chest.

"At that time, my mother was just standing behind him, but she made no effort to save me from him," she said.

Noqobo said she pleaded with her mother, Nomthandazo Martin, and asked her whether she wanted her dead.

Noqobo said her stepfather thought those were her last words.

She told the court she managed to open the kitchen door and fled outside.

She said Martin followed her and stabbed her in the back.

Noqobo told the court that she had never argued with her stepfather prior to the stabbing incident.

"I asked my mother, who was not crying or showing any sympathy, to take me outside. I could see that she wanted me to die."

When Noqobo tried to leaned on her mother for support, she shouted at her to walk on her own.

Noqobo said she managed to reach a neighbour's house where they stopped her knife-wielding stepfather from "finishing me off".

She was then rushed to hospital.
