Grammy award- winning Soweto Gospel Choir has been criticised for giving more attention to its overseas fans and sidelining its loyal fans at home.

This criticism should not be brushed aside by the the organisers of the choir because it is constructive and must in fact be heeded.

The choir is correct in representing South Africa abroad and impressing gospel music fans globally, but it should never forget that charity begins at home.

I last saw the choir perform in our country some time ago. It was at the Windybrow Theatre in Johannesburg and at that time it was not as popular as it became after winning the Grammy.

But it seems that the organisers have eventually heeded the criticism and good advice.

For those who have been longing to see their home-brewed choir perform, there is good news. The Soweto Gospel Choir has a number of concerts lined up for the major cities of South Africa in September.

So get ready to enjoy the sweet voices of the choir singers between September 8 and 30 in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban.
