The SABC has interdicted the producers of the controversial documentary on President Thabo Mbeki from further public screenings.

But the Mail&Guardian, which is organising the public screenings, says they will go ahead.

The SABC yesterday served papers on the producers of the documentary, Broad Daylight, to appear in the Johannesburg high court today in connection with the scheduled public screening of Thabo Mbeki: Unauthorised.

However, Ferial Haffajee, editor of the Mail&Guardian, said yesterday as far as they were concerned, the way was clear for the public screenings to go ahead, starting with one at Atlas Studios in Milpark this evening.

"As far as we are concerned, the scheduled screenings, including the one taking place today where author Ronald Suresh Roberts, Redi Direko, Jane Duncan and I are the panelists, are going ahead.

"The interdict has not been served on us, (the Mail&Guardian, the organisers of the public screenings) but on the producers," Haffajee said.

This evening's screening, which will be followed by what promises to be a robust debate on the documentary, has already been fully booked, she added.
