Taxi bodies pull out of protest

Three of the four Soshanguve taxi associations have alienated themselves from tomorrow's planned protest march by taxi operators.

The protest to demand, among others, the formation of one taxi body for the whole of Soshanguve township, north of Pretoria, has been organised by the Soshanguve Taxi Owners Association (Sotoa).

The three are Soshanguve Local and Long distance Taxi Association, Bazaar Local and Long Taxi Association and the Belle Ombre Taxi Association.

Chairman of the Tshwane Taxi Council, the umbrella body in the area, Alpheus Magagase, said his organisation regarded the planned march as a rumour as they had not been officially informed about it.

Notices warning commuters about tomorrow's march were last week distributed at taxi ranks in Soshanguve and Pretoria. More were distributed in Pretoria by Sotoa members yesterday.
