According to Bill Saidi's July 13 column, atheism is the yardstick by which reality is measured. By extension of this reasoning, evolution is the means of reality and is therefore not revolutionary or confrontational.
In essence, "they" refuse ontological, teleological and cosmological definitions of theism or deism. Atheism is said to have exposed the myth of religion. George Bush has initiated a pogrom of far-reaching consequences that increasingly shows Christianity and Judaism as obsessive with "imaginative theories" of God. So this serves as the impulse to refute religion?
Evil as an extension of an external force deflective of human - Christian and Judaic - knowledge. Knowledge, Saidi suggests, is a current of positivism.
Thus outside our corporeal existence, experience cannot exist and, if it does, is imaginative. This reasoning infers that strife is the domain of religion. But Republicans and Democrats are not amorphous alignments and are made up of religious and non-religious groupings who all commit evil. Evil is not the exclusive preserve of Christianity or Judaism. It comes in all forms, like those who murder others because they are atheists, who commit white-collar crime because they know how to manipulate the system, and so on.
Violence is caused by intermittently rewarded behaviour and has nothing to do with the goals of religion.
