A man masquerading as a coach and talent scout for a top PSL club was allegedly caught in the act of sodomising a nine-year-old boy at the Daveyton Metrorail Station at the weekend.

Police said yesterday the man had allegedly lured a number of youngsters after saying he represented a famous Soweto-based club.

Captain Alfred Nakane of the Daveyton police said the 21-year-old suspect, commonly known as 'Coach Thabiso', was caught by a Metrorail security guard.

"The suspect was found sodomising the boy inside a new cubicle at the station," Nakane told Sowetan yesterday.

According to police, the man targeted young boys playing football in the street.

On Friday afternoon he had approached six boys between nine to 14, and asked them to accompany him by train to a training camp in Germiston. He claimed the camp was organised by a prominent PSL club.

"The six boys were allegedly told by the man the training would take place at night and there would be free hotel accommodation for them.

"But on arrival at the Germiston Station that evening, 'Coach Thabiso' reportedly told the six youngsters their hotel accommodation had been cancelled and that they would have to spend the night at the station," according to Nakane.

The victims told police the man had then taken them to some stationary coaches.

"The boys said they were put in separate coaches, and were sodomised one after the other under threat of death if they told anyone about his evil deeds," added Nakane.

Police say that after arriving back in Daveyton, the suspect, who was apparently not satisfied, had singled out a nine-year-old boy.

He took the boy back to the station where he abused him inside the cubicle.

A Metrorail security guard caught the suspect with his pants down.

With the help of the public, the alleged paedophile was subdued and a citizen's arrest was effected.

After the arrest, five of the victims came forward and revealed that they also had been sodomised by theman.

Nakane said after making statements the six boys were examined by a district surgeon who confirmed that all had indeed been sodomised.

Police have opened a case of indecent assault against the man, and have not ruled out the possibility of more charges against the man.

The suspect will appear in the Benoni regional court today.
