A Limpopo school principal briefly appeared in the Naphuno magistrates' court in Lenyenye on Friday on charges of rape after he allegedly forced himself on a hitchhiker, and then apologised.
The 40-year-old principal from Xihoko near Tzaneen was not asked to plead and was released on R800 bail. The case was postponed to August 13.
According to the charge sheet, the man gave the 22-year-old woman a lift last week.
Instead of continuing on the road, the man drove into the bushes where he allegedly raped her. After the alleged rape, the principal apologised and offered to compensate her.
He was arrested after the woman convinced him to come with her to the police station to apologise in front of the police.
