Bogus doctor in cow-con scam

Police have warned people in the Buffalo City area to beware of a bogus "doctor" and his brother who conned an East London man out of almost R100000.

Police have warned people in the Buffalo City area to beware of a bogus "doctor" and his brother who conned an East London man out of almost R100000.

The man from Eastern Cape gave the conmen R3000 to buy a cow after they told him they had to slaughter it near the sea, said Superintendent Mtati Tana.

They later showed him the cow's head as evidence that it had been slaughtered.

The brothers said that the man's ancestors would give him R4,2million if he gave them R80000 to complete the ritual.

The conmen then instructed him to open a bank account and at one stage the man saw that R4,2million had been deposited in his account. Then it disappeared.

"They kept telling him stories. He grew tired and came to the police," said Tana. - Sapa
