This year's Brakpan 15km Road Race at Charl Baard Stadium on Sunday will incorporate the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) 10km Championships.

This was announced yesterday by Snowy Matthews, president of the CGA.

She said the CGA event would be a qualifier for the South African 10km Championships pencilled for Stellenbosch on August 11.

Some of the runners who will be looking forward to qualify for the national championships include Sylvester Moleko, Nkululeko Zamisa and the Ngwenya twins, Portia and Sydney.

With the majority of great athletes taking part in the All Africa Games in Algiers, the spotlight will be on the experienced Moleko of Harmony Athletics Club and the up and coming Zamisa.

It remains to be seen who will lift Sunday's crown because both had just won the CGA 12km crosscountry event held at Orange Farm and Mayfair last month.

In the women's section, Portia (Ngwenya) from Tsakane, who is in the CGA development team, is fancied to win her category.

The entry fee for the 15km event is R30, R20 for the 10km and R10 for for the 5km fun run and the race starts at 8am.
