Ezekiel "Banda" Sibanda, who was one of the most feared strikers in Limpopo, will be buried in Mmakgodu village in Moletjie on Saturday.
Sibanda, who shot to prominence at the now defunct Seshego City Carlton in the 1980s, died on Monday morning after a long illness.
He also played with Andrew Dipela, the Premier Soccer League general manager where he also formed a deadly combination with Steve "Disco" Legodi.
"My uncle has never enjoyed his life since he was attacked by unknown people in Seshego a few years ago," said Jeff Sibanda, family spokesman. "We knew that he was always in pain but never thought he will leave this world so soon." - Ramatsiyi Moholoa
