Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
Actor Mandla Hlatshwayo made a brief appearance in the Orlando magistrates' court yesterday on charges of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
The stockily built actor is alleged to have beaten a man who had asked him for a lift home.
Hlatshwayo, 30, known for his role as Siphiwe Phosa in the SABC soapie, Generations, was arrested on June 13.
Hlatshwayo was driving the complainant Jeffrey Pule and other acquaintances home to Protea Glen early in the morning on June 10. He stopped the car and accused Pule of sticking his hand into a woman passenger's bag.
There was an altercation involving them on the side of the road, got back into the car and continued to Pule's home.
Hlatshwayo, of Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg, has not been asked to plead.
Prosecutor Innocent Baloyi told the court yesterday that the matter could not proceed because the docket had not been brought to court.
Hlatshwayo will appear again on July 17.
