Fifteen years ago Busisiwe Nkosi was impregnated by a man she only new as Smith.
Yesterday Nkosi travelled from Nelspruit to Johannesburg looking for the man because her 15-year-old daughter has demanded to meet her father.
Nobuhle Nkosi, the daughter, has threatened: "Nothing else but my father or something else will happen."
Nobuhle says it is primarily her father's surname she wants to use. She does not want to be called a Nkosi.
Her mother says she only knew the man by his surname of Smith and last saw him when she was six months pregnant.
The 34-year-old mother told Sowetan last night that she lived with the father of her child for a few months in Randburg, north of Johannesburg, in 1991.
"When I told him I was pregnant he chased me out of the caravan we were living in and I never saw him again. He worked for Browdrikas building constructions," Nkosi said.
The daughter, Nobuhle, is demanding to see her father and take his surname.
"I would like to know him, he's my father. He was not there when I was born. I want to use his surname and he's the only one who can help me with that," she said.
Nobuhle said it had been difficult being raised by her mother alone but that she does not want her father to take responsibility now. All she needed, she said, was his surname so she could have a correct identity.
Anyone who can help re-unite this family should call Sowetan on 011-471-4144, 079-388-8256 or 072-410-7003.
