Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula keeps saying: "Crime is under control."
But crime statistics released last week showed that the country is still experiencing a massive number of murders, hijackings and bank robberies.
The 118,6percent increase in bank robberies doesn't seem to concern Nqakula. His strategies to combat crime are failing and hiring more police officers won't help.
The Jeppestown siege in which criminals killed four police officers should have been a wake-up call to the minister.
Nqakula must stop denying that crime has increased. The reality is that people are dying like flies - and they can't afford the luxury of bodyguards.
